Breed, Atheists, breed!!

A few years ago, Tommy and I were having a conversation about having kids. Not together, mind you, just procreation in general. I have always wanted kids and now I've got one. Hooray! Tommy didn't ever want kids and he still doesn't have any. Hooray! Which is fine but I proposed that the problem with that wasn't what society thinks about people who don't breed, but rather what does and does not go into the gene pool. Tommy is talented, personable, and terribly intelligent and those are precisely the traits that he will not be passing on to future generations. Meanwhile, some gang member knocks up his ho and they decide to have the baby even though neither of them have the resources or desire to take care of it. The sad reality is that, probably, that baby won't grow up to contribute much more to the world than his parents.

Yesterday, someone sent me a video about the rate of procreation that is required for a culture to survive. The main point of the video was to show that Christians and Jews aren't having enough kids and Muslims are having a ton of them. The numbers show that in our lifetimes, Europe will become predominantly Islamic. That's scary to me because the countries that are predominantly Muslim now don't seem to have any desire for a separation of church and state. In fact, they don't seem to have any qualms about making their religious delusions into laws. Societies should never be controlled by religion and it doesn't matter which religion, really. Christianity controlled society once. We refer to it as "The Dark Ages." (Yes, I realize we don't call them that simply because of Christianity.)

The point is that Islam is achieving huge numbers not by converting people (big shock), but by making babies and convincing those babies to believe in a terrible fairy tale. All of the major religions do this (indoctrinate children), of course, and all of the major religions have been responsible for terrorism and genocide at some point in history. (Even Atheists have done horrible things, though its important to realize that they didn't do these things because they were Atheists.)

I've never felt uncomfortable or nervous around Muslims and I'm certainly not advocating that anything but kindness and respect should be shown to all people no matter how big an infidel I may be to them. I'm simply saying that Atheists, Agnostics, Deists, and Free Thinkers all need to breed. Though we shouldn't indoctrinate our children any more than religious people should. We should teach our children how to think, not what to think. I believe that if they're taught to think critically, they'll see religious dogma for what it is on their own. We also need to keep being vocal and honest. Respectful, of course, but always calling a spade a spade. We are on the rise after all.

Leah and I saw Inglorious Basterds yesterday and it was a. maze. ing. Leah said she liked it better than Pulp Fiction. I don't know if I'd go that far but it probably does come pretty close.

  1. This reminds me of how people are freaking over 2012 and the end of the world. Some Christians believe there is a "new world" coming for them after god destroys this one. I'm wondering why do people think the world is getting worse? We're moving closer to the end of wars not the end of worlds. People need to think, have thinking children and better our world. It's all up to us! Why would people think throwing in the towel and say well god's coming anyway be acceptable?

  2. Ever seen idiocracy? The main point of the movie that the unabaited breeding of the lowest common denominator will eventually dumb down the whole civilization. Put it in your netflix que if you have not seen it yet. -Uber

  3. I've honestly considered breeding for this very reason.

  4. I've decided to interpret this as a joke, because this really makes me think of the Nazi's lebensborn.

  5. I was being a little tongue in cheek but how is this anything like that? I'm not saying that Atheists are biologically supperior to anyone and that our physical traits should dominate the gene pool. I'm just saying I wish there were more free-thinking people passing their knowledge and ideas along. I'm not advocating setting up government funded breeding camps for the non religious.

  6. Well, as of age 26 I don't feel much desire at all to have children. Partly because of my distaste for the current state of the world I'd be bringing them into (thanks in good part to religion). I keep hoping that maybe we can spread freethinking and abolish religion without having to breed it into people but it's looking dismal. I'm sure glad you and Leah are helping the cause though.

We probably have Christians to thank for a lot of the unwanted or neglected children born in this country. They do despise teaching birth control after all.

  8. Hmmm...first, I'm not sure what the video is, but the idea/supposed fact (I'm not sure, I haven't seen data) that Moslems will have a greater majority than Christians and Jews is what the Zionists factions of the Israeli government use to justify targeting Palestinian women and children. Of course, you're not going to find anything from the government specifically stating that they target women and children, but there are numerous news sources that point this out. So...I don't know who made the video, but I'm sure if you look back far enough into the source, you'll find some pro-Zionists and/or anti-Palestinian agenda.

Also, which countries are you worried about? More countries than the ones you'll hear about on the news every day have a Moslem majority, and many of the people are, for all intents and purposes, peaceful and keep to their families and communities. The unknown, in this case Moslems and Islam, can be scary I guess, but I don't think the idea that a country or continent will be a majority-anything is scary in and of itself. I hate using Wikipedia, but for the sake of speed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Muslim_majority_countries.

Moslem countries have no intention of invading other countries--the only country that seems to be invading anyone is the United States. Rogue nations exist, for sure, and there are definitely nations that have populations that don't appreciate the U.S., but for good reason. Imperialism and the pursuit of empire make for enemies, and the U.S. continues to ignore this lesson, so it gets worse. Also, what have the predominantly Christian countries done that's been overwhelmingly, blindingly great?

And, "In fact, they don't seem to have any qualms about making their religious delusions into laws."--How many laws in the U.S. have roots in religious ideas? Probably quite a few. I'm actually asking, because I don't know the answer.

Anyway, I actually read this yesterday and spent some time thinking about it, and that's my response. I look forward to seeing what you have to say, dialogue is essential to learning for all parties. :)

  9. I definitely wasn't putting America on a pedestal or saying a "Christian Nation" would be any better than a "Muslim Nation." Personally, if I had to choose I'd pick the "Christian Nation" for no other reason than picking the devil you know over the devil you don't.

The video I watched was totally propaganda and at the end it started talking about how it should be our "mission" to breed and that its a christian family's duty and whatnot. But I'd heard those statistics a few other places too so I imagine there is some truth in the bullshit.

Looking at the list of Muslim contolled countries, I found several that I wouldn't feel safe living in as a non-believer, and I suppose that is the root of my fear. Also a lot of them have had in recent history or are currently having religious wars and/or genocides. Typically, the countries in Europe that are in question don't have to deal with that sort of thing, and I hope they never have to. Islam teaches in group / out group mentalities even slightly more than the Judeo-Christian religions so no, I'm not terribly excited about their religion becoming more popular.

Although both Christianity and Judaism have bloody histories, for the most part they're pretty tolerant of criticism nowadays. Criticizing Christianity in civilized circles will get you prayed for, and in uncivilized circles...well you might get dragged behind a truck, I guess. Where I get nervous is when you write a book criticizing Islam and even Cat Stevens wants you dead.

The point of the blog wasn't to say that I wish Muslims would stop having babies or to support zionists in anyway. I'm just saying that I wish everyone would give up their religion, realize that we're all in this together, and start learning to cope with the fact that we're all responsible and accountable for our own actions. No one is an infidel, and god doesn't love you anymore than anyone else.
Since that's not going to happen, maybe we should just have more babies...?

  10. Totally agree about "Inglorious Bastards". Awesome flick! The Muslim thing scares me too, for the same reasons you articulated so well, Taylor.
